A little over 2000 years after wine was first produced in the Old World, a television producer in California was introduced to the art of wine making in the New World…
For nearly 12 years, through various vintages and the patient wisdom of some very smart wine makers in the Napa Valley, a style evolved of premium wines sourced from world-class vineyards throughout the Golden State.
What began as a hobby called “Left Coast Wines” has now matured on the vine to become THE GURIN WINES. We embrace our identity as we create a wine of specificity, a wine that tastes like the sun and the wind and the rain and the land of the West Coast, the left coast of the map, the California dream.
From top to bottom this place of incredible resources produces world-class wines. And the people who love this stuff really love this stuff. As do we. And hope you do, too!
So, Phil Gurin and his friends embarked on a new vinicultural journey… full of hopes and dreams, a sense of humor and a little attitude.
To create wines that literally taste like the idea of California. An expression of terroir, of climate, of the winemakers’ skills and most of all, of friendship.
Many people dream about making wine. And to be honest we really had no idea how to start.
But with a little bit of luck, we found incredible partners in Napa (you know who you are!) who took us to heart and made our vision a reality… just like the award-winning TV shows we produce for the USA and the world.
We embarked on this journey with a no-nonsense approach and a bottom’s up, can-do spirit.
We’re going to make something profoundly delicious, and we’re going to do it with the same creativity and story-telling skills we bring to our day jobs.
We are going to source the best fruit – and offer our wines from some of the best vineyards at eye-popping prices that are nearly half what similar winemakers charge for the exact same grapes!
We think our wines are excellent expressions of bottled poetry, boldly telling our own narrative, offering you a delicious tale in every glass.
We told you so.

For as long as she can remember, Charlotte has been attending wine festivals and vineyards with her family. Having been born and raised in SoCal, attended college in Oregon, and her mother growing up in New Zealand, Charlotte is partial to a Chardonnay from either region. Charlotte is excited to assist all the friends of The Gurin Wines and learn more about the growing industry.
In 1996, Patrick Saboe was reshaping the Charleston, SC restaurant scene at nationally lauded Slightly North of Broad, when a honeymoon to California’s wine country changed his life. Patrick traded server tools for winemaking textbooks by enrolling in the Enology & Viticulture program at U.C. Davis.
While attending U.C. Davis, Patrick worked at Robert Sinskey Vineyards and assisted Dr. Andy Walker in the Pierce’s Disease Resistance Rootstock Breeding Program. Upon graduation, he became Harvest Enologist for Hanna Winery before becoming the Assistant Winemaker at Keller Estate. Here, Patrick gained valuable experience working closely with renowned winemaker, Michael McNeill (Hanzell), to produce multiple award-winning wines. In 2006, he became Winemaker and Vineyard Manager for Petroni Vineyards as well as then began to thrive as Consulting Winemaker for numerous ultra-premium brands in Napa and Sonoma, until he was placed as the Director of Winemaking at The Wine Foundry since 2012 and currently Foundry Wines and their sister brand, Anarchist Wine Co.
Patrick’s winemaking philosophy is simple: exceptional wines are made from exceptional fruit with exceptional care. Consequently, he collaborates closely with the numerous growers who partner with Foundry, ensuring that quality is paramount. When not tending to the Foundry wines, Patrick spends time with his wife Dawn and three children Maddy, Claire and Jackson in Petaluma.
Phil loves everything wine, especially California wine. He began working his first custom crush in 2010, and never looked back. In 2013 he began collaborating with winemaker Patrick Saboe on a variety of terroir specific West Coast specialties: Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa and Central Coast Syrah and Rhone-style blends, Sonoma County Chardonnay, and his very special Clarksburg Rosé. In 2021 he launched The Gurin Wines to share his passion and palate with fans of great wines from great sources, made with care and quality.
In his other life, Phil is an award-winning television producer/creator/writer. He has produced thousands of hours of shows, and his work has appeared in over 185 countries around the world.
But it’s wine time now, friends!
